The McCord family has arrived in the Philippines and have been responding to the typhoon victims and to the poor. Craig has preached at a church, but found the most tragic ministry has been to the typhoon victims. Although he has done typhoon ministries before he was not prepared for this!
Typhoon Peping changed the course of a river by bringing it about a quarter mile west and this erased an entire neighborhood and 21 houses just disappeared! The people lost their homes, ALL that they owned, and they even the land that the houses were built on. Those in the area that did not loose everything had their rice crops completely destroyed just weeks before they were due to be harvested. They are completely without income until next harvest season which is months away.
It has been so hard to talk about God’s love to people that have been devastated. And yet they are so needy and so aware of their own inadequacy that they listen with tearful intensity to the gospel. Craig speaks about God’s love and our sin and how He still wanted to call us back so much that He sent His Son to pay the full price. Praise God – Craig fully believes they will be able to plant a church among these people who received supplies in the name of Jesus (thanks to Calvary Community Church) including desperately needed blankets from your ministry, rice, soap, coffee and other supplies.
Pray that there will be a church for these people and that God will redeem this tragedy for His glory. And as you pray consider the words of II Chron. 20 : 15 – 17 – “Do not be afraid or discouraged;…. for the battle is not yours, but Gods… You will not need to fight this battle. Take your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you. Go out… the Lord will be with you.”
