The current mission will focus its efforts on other basic human needs – water, hygiene and shelter.  This is where you can personally make a difference in the life of someone in Haiti.  Supplies are needed for the team and the time is short.

H.E.L.P. – Haiti Emergency Living Pack – was introduced at the Calvary services last Sunday and many have already stepped up generously.  If you were one of those individuals, thank you!!    

For as little as $9.00 you can provide water purification tablets, or as much as $300 you can donate an entire Pack including a tent that will house a family of four.  Please see the flyer attached to this E-mail for a full list of supplies needed for H.E.L.P.  Tents must be new and waterproof, and time is critical – we must have everything at Calvary by March 7 to make the shipment. 

Make a difference – H.E.L.P.:  water, a mess kit, a tent or something in between.  Every item received by March 7 will be used directly for someone in Haiti. Every contribution will go 100% for Haiti Relief.  1. WAREHOUSE CLEANUP & ORGANIZATION OF HAITI SUPPLIES STAGING AREA: CANCELLED FRIDAY NIGHT, February 12th (INSTEAD WE WILL WORK ALL DAY SATURDAY)THIS SATURDAY, February 13th  8:00AM-6:00PM.   Just show up anytime Calvary  Community Church Warehouse Doors to Far Right of Main Entrance

This is a labor intensive job but very necessary to clean out the Calvary Warehouse to make space for both the storage of Supplies for the Haiti Relief Efforts as well as a staging/sorting area for supplies.  Please wear work clothes, closed toed shoes and bring work gloves if you have them.

 3. GO ON A FUTURE MISSIONS TRIP TO HAITI:

Over the next 12-18 months we plan to coordinate multiple Short Term Mission Trips to work with an Orphanage in Haiti. One team just returned last week from Haiti. http://www.vcstar.com/news/2010/feb/01/just-back-from-haiti-relief-group-is-planning and  http://blogs.venturacountystar.com/helping_haiti/.  If you are interested in going on a future trip please email your information and we will connect you with the person who is coordinating those trips.

The Ventura County Homeless and Housing Coalition needs your help to complete the bi-annual homeless count to take place in Ventura County on January 26, 2010.

The count is a requirement for every community that receives federal funding from HUD.  In Ventura County, local groups lead the effort in each of the 10 cities. HUD funding is extremely important in the effort to end homelessness and accounts for $2 million annually to support homeless individuals and families in Ventura County.  Volunteers will work in teams and will receive advance training in recording the count. The teams go out in the early morning, during the day, and in the evening to places where homeless persons are known to gather. Most counters are in the field for a couple of hours at a time and must be at least 18 years old.  Training will be provided online and in live sessions in January.

Because we need to cover so much territory and so many hours, we need a large number of volunteers. Won’t you consider joining us for this enormously powerful cause? I know many folks will volunteer during the last few days, but training will be held next week. I expect to put the schedule out tonight or tomorrow for in person training at sites around the County.

PRAY

1.     Allow God to bend your heart and pray for the immediate needs of those who are suffering or have lost loved ones.

2.     Pray for the rescue efforts and the strength and security of those workers.

3.     Ask The Lord to meet people in their time of need and draw them into deeper relationship with Him.

GIVE

1.     We will be taking an offering in Calvary’s worship services this Sunday for the relief work in Haiti.  Calvary will be sending relief and rebuilding teams and necessary supplies over the coming weeks and months.  You can make checks payable to Calvary Community Church with “Haiti Relief” in the memo.

2.     Pastor Shawn’s Blog contains links for giving to Christian organizations who are on the ground in Haiti and doing a good job in immediate relief efforts (pastorshawn.com).

3.     Calvary’s children’s ministries have worked with Bill Manassero and the Maison de Lumiere orphanage in Port au Prince for more than 3 years.  Their organization, Child Hope International is doing on-site medical care and relief work and donations are going directly to that work. http://www.childhope.org/about/earthquake.html

4.     Medical and other supplies can be donated at Calvary’s Mission Counter.  Storage space for the donated items will also needed.  Here is a current list of needed items:

1.     Teams will be going out from Calvary in the coming year to assist in the relief and recovery efforts.  Please let us know if you would like to support those who are going, help organize teams and logistics, or if you would be willing to travel and help in some way.  The people most needed in the first few months are security and medical personnel, counselors, French speakers, contractors, and other workers.  Contact Brian at brian.field@calvarycc.org or 818 575-2266.
