ENSENADA, MEXICO

The weekend trip to Ensenada, Mexico has been rescheduled for September 11th-13th.  The team will be staying at Mt. Zion Church working with Luis & Mimi Ojeda.  Outreach opportunities will include building a Garden Tower in the Kumeyaay Indian community that filters gray (dish) water to water vegetables, food distribution and relationship building.  This team needs YOU!

Proposed Schedule:

Friday:

• Meet at Calvary at 6am
• Leave at 6:30am
• Stop half way to Border for quick food and coffee.
• Tacos on the way to Mt. Sion Church
• Youth ministry
• Dinner
• Team Time

Saturday:

• Breakfast
• Drive to Kumeyaay community
• Food distribution/pray for families
• Lunch
• Build Garden Tower at church/use the project to share Gospel message
• Return to Mt. Sion Church
• Dinner
• Team Time/Pray/Worship

Sunday:

• Breakfast
• Church: 2 or 3 testimonies from our team.
• Head home in the afternoon
• Stop for Tacos again on way out.
• Gas Up other side of Border
• Arrive at Calvary in the evening

I have some good news and some bad news.  The good news is that we have a really great trip scheduled to Mexico August 14th-16th working with the Kumeyaay Indian community just outside of Ensenada.  The bad news is that so far, the trip is in danger of being postponed due to lack of those committed.

Here is some more good news: it’s not too late to go!!!  If you would like to be a part of this trip, please let me (Brian Field) brian.field@calvarycc.org or 818 575-2266 know by this Wednesday, August 5th. I know… that’s in 2 days. Think spontaneous. Seriously though, pray about it and really consider if you should be going. Dave & Krysta Christensen have committed to leading the trip and are an awesome couple passionate about Jesus.  They have lots of missions experience in Mexico (and beyond) and have strong relationship with Luis & Mimi Ojeda.  The plan is to camp at the Kumeyaay village and engage with the community.  There will also be some people from Luis & Mimi’s church who will join us for the weekend.

Trip Cost: $100 (that includes transportation: the team will be taking Calvary vans) Due by Monday, August 10th

If you have any other questions about the trip please don’t hesitate to call me.  Again, if we do not get enough people to go, we will look at postponing until the first or second weekend in September.  Please keep that in mind if August 14th-16th does not work with your schedule

In summary, there has been some amazing ministry that we have had the
opportunity to be a part of including:

Prayer walks through the slum
Prayer healing
Children’s ministry
School visits
Our students sharing testimonies, leading dramas and skits, leading
worship, and preaching

J.D., Kyle Kazmer, and Dominique Groll felt a little under the weather
earlier today but are now feeling great. (great answer to prayer!)

It has been amazing seeing the students step outside their comfort
zone and boldly proclaim Jesus…i have been so impressedand am so
proud.

We fly to Uganda tomorrow and will have Internet where we are staying
so we’ll give you more details tomorrow.

This team will be traveling to El Transito, Nicaragua from November 14-21. This will be a construction trip to work on the Community Center laying the foundation plus some VBS activities. Mike was Calvary’s high school pastor for almost 10 years (95-2004).  Now as a member of Calvary, Mike serves with the Russian Child Sponsorship Program and Eastern European regional ministry. Joining Christian Associates (CA) in the fall of 2004, Mike initially began coaching and developing the ministry partnership between Calvary, CA and 3 churches in Russia and Latvia (Grace Baptist Russia, Golgotha Russia and Riga Reformed in Latvia).

CA is an international organization focused on extending God’s kingdom by multiplying effective leaders who can help launch new churches, seeking to see Jesus Christ changing lives in the cities of Europe and beyond.  CA now has projects in 32 cities in Europe and 10 cities in the Americas.  CA and Calvary have a long-standing partnership focused in Russia, Latvia and are looking to expand into other Eastern European countries in the future.  

Though he travels extensively, Mike’s role has his office and home in the US. Initially Mike served primarily in Russia and Latvia but in 2006 he moved into a split role that focuses on 1) Eastern European Director (Primary Role) and 2) overseeing CA’s Southern California initiatives and churches.

Prayer Requests:

• Pray for God to direct our expansion of His Kingdom into Eastern Europe, helping us to discover new leaders and church plants in Moldova, Latvia, Russia, Lithuania and the Ukraine.  

• Many of our leaders experience prejudice and persecution for their faith.  Please remember in prayer their personal, spiritual and emotional hardships.

• Join us in prayer for God’s love and grace to be made known to Eastern Europeans through our friendship, words and servanthood.

A team of 25 high school students and leaders will be heading to East Africa this summer to spend time at Miracle House in Kenya and God Cares School in Uganda.  Many will be returning to visit friends they have made from previous trips and all will be going to build new friendships and share in the hope of Jesus. Please be praying for the team in their travels and all they will be doing while there.  They will have the opportunity to speak in front of hundreds of children in schools and show love to orphans and those affected with HIV.  They will also come back with new perspectives and a greater passion for Jesus.
